About Russian Expert Review

Russian Expert Review was launched in April 2003 at the initiative of the Center for Strategic Research North-West. It is being published both in online- and printed versions and is distributed free of charge.
Now the RER is aimed to deeper and unbiased understanding of social-economic and political transformations taking place in Russia. RER provides highly qualified research on and analysis of a wide range of issues in Russian foreign and domestic policy, economy and business.  The issues of our online-periodical contain both research results and analytic articles on a number of problems discussed by Russian and international experts, academics and policy-makers.

Special emphasis is focused on the following key trends:

• The structural reform of the Russian economy and formation of national innovation system
• Russia’s integration into the world economy, accession to the WTO and the expansion of Russian business abroad
• The development of Russian regions
• Administrative reform in Russia
• Deeper involvement in the international political community and building a strategic partnership with the European Union and United States
• The development of the transport communications network and fuel and energy complex

 

Originally the Russian Expert Review was issued as digest. The first issue of RER, “Russia and EU enlargement”, was released in July 2003. Other issues of RER have included “Russia and the World Trade Organization”, “Political Choices for Russian Economy” , “The Reform of Russia’s Electricity Sector”, “Innovative Russia”, and “Migratory Policy of Russia”.

Since September, 2005, the RER has new layout. Now it is a full-fledged magazine where the authors’ up-to-date articles specially written for the RER are published. The first issue of renewed magazine is dedicated to the serious discussion about the governmental regional policy. (The discussion broke out again because of the Concept of Russian regions Social and Economic Development Strategy proposed by the Regional Development Ministry.)

Our editorial policy is to publish works that give an expert and unbiased view of the key trends in Russia’s development.

We welcome our readers’ participation in the discussion. The RER editors expect your comments to the published articles and opinions on the problems discussed in the magazine issues, as also any suggestions for new topics to be spoken about.
